Scott Flavin maintains a busy and versatile career. In addition to his leadership of Miami Mozarteum, he is Resident Conductor for The Henry Mancini Institute and concertmaster of Florida Grand Opera. He has appeared on the podium with such diverse artists as Denyce Graves, Chick Corea, Dave Grusin, and The Beach Boys, among many others. He is also active as a composer and arranger, his works having been heard often on American Public Media's Performance Today, and in concert across the country. He regularly performs nationally and internationally as a member of Pulse Chamber Music and the Bergonzi String Quartet. In addition, he is professor of violin at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music, where he is committed to preparing his students for the challenges of performance careers in the twenty-first century.
Flavin was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, where he became the youngest member of the Boston Mozarteum Orchestra; he then attended the Eastman School of Music, and was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He has conducted in summer festivals including the Pine Mountain Music Festival and University of New Hampshire's Summer Youth Music School, as well as guest appearances with the Alhambra Orchestra and for the JazzRoots concert series. His nationally-broadcast conducting debut, for the PBS television special "Jazz at the Philharmonic", will air in January of 2014. |
